Rendering of a dental implant placed in the mouth at Todd Rogers Dental in Colorado Springs, CO

There are Two Phases for the surgical placement of a dental implant.

Implant Surgery Phase One

An antibiotic is given several days before surgery to prevent infection and assist in healing.

Dr. Rogers will numb the area with a local anesthetic. When you are completely comfortable, a small incision is made in the gum tissue, creating a socket in the jawbone.

In most cases, the implant and healing abutment are placed at the same time as the extraction. If there is too much infection at the extraction site, a bone graft is put into the socket and sutures placed. Approximately six months later, a small incision is made in the gum tissue and the implant and abutment are inserted.

Implant Surgery Phase Two

When the implant is firmly embedded into the jawbone, an impression will be taken that is sent to the laboratory for the final restoration, either an implant-supported denture, or a crown.
