Are There Any Downsides to a Composite Filling?

Are There Any Downsides to a Composite Filling?Composite fillings are fillings that a lot of people choose to have because they do not have silver or mercury in them. Many people choose to have composite fillings, and our dentists like to use them for a variety of reasons. Being able to have the right filling, especially done by our professionals, will ensure that you can smile big and confidently.

Composite Fillings Come with Pros and Cons

One of the benefits that come with composite fillings is that they do not have any mercury in them. They are also tooth colored, so they are used mostly in fillings that might be seen when the person smiles. This helps them regain their confidence and not have to worry about having a large silver spot in the front of their mouth.

One of the downsides is that they do not last as long as the amalgam or silver fillings. This is why our office may use different materials in the mouth depending on the decay that is seen and the help that may be needed in that specific tooth.

Composite fillings do not come with other downsides besides the length of time that they are able to last. This also depends on the size of the filling, the specific tooth, and the specific person. The time the filling lasts is important to think about.
