What is a Dental Implant?
Dental implants are one of the only replacement solutions that you do not have to remove regularly to clean and check for repairs. This is a small titanium post that we surgically install into your jaw, where it then fuses completely with the bone as it heals. An implant is a versatile option. You can attach one or more teeth to a single post. This allows one procedure to set you up with dazzling and fully functional new teeth. This implant acts as the tooth’s root, rather than as a replacement tooth in and of itself. This means that it is permanent, stronger than a natural tooth root, and offers the availability of change. If you only need one tooth replaced now, but need a new full arch later in life, you can use the same implant and get new teeth!
The Dental Implant Process
The procedure itself is relatively simple. To determine candidacy, there are a few things that we need to take into consideration. One of the most important of these is your bone density. If you have low bone density, there is a good chance that the implant will fail, whether the bone simply doesn’t support it correctly or it won’t fuse properly. Either way, it spells out further complications. For this reason, you may need to undergo a bone grafting procedure to properly prepare your jaw beforehand. This can add significant time to your process but can make the difference between candidacy and non-candidacy.
Once your jaw is deemed adequate for the procedure, we will start by administering a local or general anesthetic. From there, we can start the surgery by making a small incision on the surface of your gums. The post will then be screwed into the bone once it is accessible and the wound will be sealed. It will take four to six months to heal completely, but once it does, it will be completely fused to the bone. Then we can secure a permanent false tooth onto the post, and you will not have to worry about sliding or unnatural looking false teeth again!
Todd Rogers Dental wants to help you look and feel younger and stronger. Implants allow this in a way that no other tooth replacement option can. You will cosmetically be stronger, and as far as function goes, nothing will hold better. It consistently stimulates your jaw, providing lasting results in the bones and lasting beauty in your teeth.
