How to Most Effectively Clean Behind Back Teeth

Clean Back Teeth Todd Rogers Dental CO 80920Located at the back of your mouth are your wisdom teeth. Behind them lie small pockets. These are repositories for plaque, which can cause cavities and gum disease.

This is why it's important to thoroughly clean them on a regular basis. Fortunately, these areas aren't difficult to keep clean and there are a few ways you can do so.

How to Most Effectively Clean Back Teeth

Learning how to clean this area of your mouth is just as important as learning to brush the rest of your teeth. To do this, start by placing a pea-size amount of toothpaste on your toothbrush. Insert your toothbrush into your mouth and extend it all the way to the back of your mouth.

Although this may feel somewhat uncomfortable in the beginning, since you're probably not used to feeling your toothbrush in this part of your mouth. Now gently scrub this area by moving your toothbrush in both an up-and-down and a circular motion. Make sure you finish by rinsing your mouth with mouthwash.

Since this is a liquid, it can easily reach into the tiny crevices of your mouth where a toothbrush won't fit. This is why it's ideal for cleaning the spaces behind your wisdom teeth. By choosing to use a mouthwash that contains fluoride you'll have extra protection against cavities too.

We want to help you understand how proper brushing and flossing habits will give you a foundation for healthy teeth and gums. For this reason, we encourage you to get a new toothbrush every three months, so you can continue maintaining good oral health.

This is important because using an old, dirty toothbrush to clean the areas behind your wisdom teeth, you'll actually be depositing more bacteria and plaque there instead of removing it - what your primary goal was to begin with.
